As part of our goal of updating the technology that supports the Martin Acres Neighborhood Association, we have recently upgraded the website to use WordPress “blogging” software. This allows users to add information easily without being an html or programming expert.
If you have information that you would like to see posted on the website, have information about a local business that should be added to our local businesses page, or are interested in having an account on our website so you can provide information for the benefit of the neighborhood, please contact webmaster@martinacres.org or president@martinacres.org.
The following neighborhood events are planned for 2009:
These events are in the planning stages. Dates and details will be forthcoming:
The MANA email list (”manalist”) which has been providing a way for Martin Acres neighbors to share information for many years is now running on Mailman software. After a decade of using majordomo, we have switched to Mailman, which provides a daily digest feature and a web interface to manage subscriptions and view the list archives. To subscribe to the list, visit the information page at http://www.martinacres.org/mailman/listinfo/manalist.
The city of Boulder is launching an effort to examine the impacts that surround what is often referred to as “pops and scrapes” development/redevelopment in single-family neighborhoods.
You can read about it on the city’s website: Compatible Development in Single-Family Neighborhoods
As more folks ride and commute by bike in Boulder, Martin Acres residents are concerned about bike safety, especially riding at night without lights. There is ZERO enforcement of this law and MANA feels that CU and the City needs to take a role in education and promoting use of a front and rear light on all bikes at night in Boulder.
We had a mellow event with a small group of 4 or 5 families and very nice evening. Watch out for mosquitoes at dusk in Martin Park.
Three representatives from the Center for Resource Conservation attended the May MANA meeting and explained their services. They are offering a free irrigation inspection from June till August and insulation rebates of 20% up to $300. For more information, see their website www.conservationcenter.org or call 303-441-3278.
On our email list week we’ve had a spirited discussion about house size restrictions or limitations for remodels or rebuilds in our neighborhood and in Boulder. How was this calculated, what does it all mean, and what other restrictions besides floor area ratio (FAR) are in place? Our April 7th meeting will be on this topic. Please come if you have something to say or contribute for a friendly discussion about how big should houses be in Martin Acres. I plan to invite someone from the plannning apartment to help us make these calculations if you’re planning a remodel or would just like to know.
The Annual Meeting of the Martin Acres Neighborhood Association was held on March 2, 2009.
